Light under a bushel?

Since I have a phd in psychology and I'm a stay at home mom, people tend to tell me I'm hiding my light under a bushel.

'What a waste!' and 'So you don't do anything anymore?' are common responses, based on the assumption that taking care of your children doesn't require talent nor effort.

To all those people I would like to say: I did not hide my light under a bushel! I'm using it every day to make the world a better place by taking care of the future: my children.

Same case with my SIL. She's an English Major and graduated cum laude. My FIL is kind of frustrated because she ended up a SAHM and is taking care of her 3 kids. I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as she's happy and enjoying it.

Don't mind what other people are saying. Taking care of kids is not an easy job.

Cheers!

AMEN! I hate when I can tell people think I'm worthless because I'm not professionally using my degree anymore. I can't think of a better way to work and answer God's call on my life than to raise my children as a SAHM.

I love this post. (Thanks for stopping by my blog, by the way.) I recently re-read a story from the Bible that TOTALLY gave me a new insight into this claim about "wasting" our lives as stay-at-home moms. Here's a link if you're interested in reading it. I only mention it because it was such a great lesson for me to learn.
